When a child first climbs a tree

they look up through constellations of leaves

that mimic

mirror

the stars high above

that first climb

and every climb after

inspires them to climb for.

When a child first climbs a tree

they defy gravity reaching for the stars with their eyes

they limbs and bole of the tree

a space ship flying them

with their reaching grasping limbs

as high as they can to that world above.

When a child falls out of a tree

the child is a falling star

a meteor whose life scars the earth and all life with innocence broken

When a child picks himself

herself up

and climbs back up into that tree,

it is the explorer spirit of humanity

risen

indomitable

constantly climbing,

reaching for the stars.
